GEORGE D. BALDER TOWN ASSESSOR 38 YEARS DIES
FOLEY, Minn. - George D. Balder, 75, retired township assessor, died at the St. Cloud Nursing Home, St. Cloud, Friday. He was born in St. George Township, Benton County, Jan. 2, 1895, and married Mary Doyle on June 21, 1921, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Custer, Wis. The couple farmed in the area and he was a township assessor for 38 years.
Mr. Balder is survived by children: Mrs. Peter (Kathleen) Winkelman, Mrs. William (Jeanette) Kasner, Clifford and Richard, Foley; and Mrs. John (Terese) Weiss, St. Cloud; 30 grandchildren; and brothers, Robert and Felix, Foley. His wife died on Feb. 26, 1942 and he was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Benton Barracks.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Lawrence Church, Duelm, Minn., with burial in the parish cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gary and Larry Winkelman; Robert and Michael Kasner; Brian Weiss and Gerard Balder.
Friends may call at the Foley Funeral Home after 7 p.m. tonight.
St. Lawrence parish will say the rosary at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Sunday.
Knights of Columbus will say the office of the dead at the funeral home at 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
Members of Earle James Howe Post of the American Legion will conduct the military services.
