Weidow Receives Fatal Injuries
A lamentable fate for father and son occurred this morning, in the yard of Louis Cohen & Sons, on Old River road, Breslau, when a crane which was being operated by William Weidow, Jr., was indirectly responsible for the fatal injury of his father, William Weidow, Sr., aged 60. The victim was the oldest employe of the concern, having been with it for 20 Years, the last several as assistant foreman..
When the crane which was being operated by the son, collided with the boom of another crane, a piece of pipe, which the latter was swinging around, was catapulted through space. It happened to be cast in the direction of the father, who wan standing near a freight car, with his back toward the missel, so that he did not see it. The elder Weidow was struck in the back. Apparently the shock resulted in his death, as Coroner Kniffen was unable to find a mark of the impact on his body.
Two of the deceased's sons, William, Jr. and Peter J.. are employed by Louis Cohen & Sons. Mrs. Weidow died about 1 ½ years ago.
