John Roosevelt Preston, 82, of Reno, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at his home. John, the son of Dewey Johnson & Essie Mathews Preston, was born Feb. 22, 1934, in Brookston.

He served in the U. S. Army from June 21, 1956 – June 20, 1962. He then became a Paris Firefighter retiring from the Paris Fire Department. John continued to work by becoming a bus driver with the Chisum ISD, and he later retired from that job. During those working years he also did surveying.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Cooper Preston, whom he married on March 2, 1964, building twenty-nine years of family and memories before her death on Jan. 25, 1994. He was also preceded in death by brothers, D.J. Preston, Jr., James T. Preston, Lee Roy Preston, and Ray Stanley Preston, and one sister, Mae Burket.

Survivors include his wife, Eloise Boswell Preston whom he married on April 28, 1995, children, Neda Jones & husband Jeff of Paris, Cindy Wheeler & husband Tony of McKinney, Stephanie Adams & husband Jeff of Tyler, Pennie Jean Burchinal Haydon & husband Mike of Edgewood, James William Burchinal of Paris and Eric Eugene Burchinal & wife Heather of Paris, 12 grandchildren, Todd Brakebill, Brandon Jones, Brittney Jones, Ashley Brakebill, Amber Brakebill, Erick Jones, Ethan Wheeler, Kylie Burchinal, Keely Burchinal, Jeff "Benji" Adams, Laura Adams and Ashley Burchinal Bowan, 9 great grandchildren, Gavyn, Zayne, Dylan, Kyden, Kyrie, Baby Bankston, Gage, Shiner and Oaklee, three sisters, Mary Ruth Vaughan, Ann Lamb and Gloria Fitzgerald all of Paris, a brother, Buddy Preston & wife Elvina, his best friend, Rob Carson of Paris along with numerous nieces & nephews and a host of friends.

Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 23rd, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Bro. David Ballard officiating. Burial will follow in Lake Creek Cemetery.
