Holly Springs, MS - Richard Munford Jordan, Senior, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 15, 2016 at 10 a.m., surrounded by his family and loving wife, Clara, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. He would often say that he was, "the luckiest man in the world" because of his amazing family and that he had done everything he had ever wanted to do. He deeply loved and was loved in return by his seven children, their spouses, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on August 31, 1929, he was the son of Edward Leland IV and Evelyn Jordan. He spent his early years in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on a farm with his four brothers and sisters which inspired his lifelong love of the land. At the age of eighteen, he moved to Alaska to work on a survey crew for the Army Corps of Engineers. He then joined the Air Force and served during the Korean War. After marrying his wife, Clara Malacha Loughmiller from Parsons, Kansas, they moved to Cookeville, Tennessee where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Tennessee Tech University. He began his career in Nashville working for Nashville Electric and Power and then began working for HR Miles and Associates. He moved to Memphis in 1966 and started his own businesses, Jordan, Marlar, Hale Inc., Control Panels, and Thermal Equipment Sales Company. After many years as a successful businessman, he purchased a farm in Holly Springs, Mississippi in 1985 and began what he called his "second career" as a rancher. There they joined the First United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School and served on the Church Council. He was also the president of the Cattlemen's Association and was awarded Soil Conservationist of the year in 2007. He was a man of God and a lifelong learner, who was an elder and a charter member of Balmoral Presbyterian Church. There, he taught Sunday school and bible study for adults, the junior high, kindergarten and preschool, touching so many young lives that he became known as the "father of our church". He will be remembered for his enthusiasm for life, his sense of humor, and the love he had for his family. He is survived by his wife, Clara Jordan, and their seven children, Clara Simmons, Pattie Money and husband Pete, Rebekah Bruce and husband Tommy, Richard Jordan Jr. and wife Elise, Jeff Jordan and wife Debbie, Matt Jordan and wife Kate, and Rachel Jordan and husband Greg, as well as twenty grandchildren, Hal, Casey and husband Jeff, Patrick and wife Lisa, Chris, Wesley, Tricia and her husband Bill, Jordan, Samantha, Hannah, Jack, Owen, Jeffrey, Josh, Claire, Jonathan, Catherine, Caroline, Gregory, Samuel, and Andrew, and five great-grandchildren, Levi, Eliza, Hal, Kyle Hunter, and Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Leland Jordan IV and Eliza Evelyn Jordan, brothers Edward "Buddy" Jr. and his wife Jane. Jordan of Murfreesboro, John "Hop" Jordan of Richmond, Virginia, and sister Evelyn "Sissy" Williams of Franklin, TN. He is survived by sister, Nancy Muir and husband Duane of Franklin, TN and sister-in-law, Bonnie Jordan of Richmond, VA.
