On May 9, 1868, she married Oscar Shedd Newton (July 2, 1844-May 27, 1873) in Kane County, IL, and lived in Lincoln Center, Grundy County, Iowa, until Oscar died.

She is shown as Mary E. Newton in 1920 U.S. census report and Aurora city directories in 1910, 1923, 1929 and 1931 (as Mary E. Newton, widow of Oscar).

Samuel Morse Newton and Hannah Holt Newton are parents of both Abel Newton (father of Forest Newton) and Sylvester Newton (father of Oscar S. Newton). Thus, Forest and Oscar are first cousins who married the Hamilton sisters.

Mary died on June 18, 1931, in Aurora, IL. The Illinois death index transcript in ancestry.com reflects her name as Mary C. Hamilton Newton, with a burial location of Janesville Cemetery, Janesville WI. None of the cemeteries in Janesville, WI, is actually named Janesville Cemetery, although Oak Hill is now operated by the city government. Her obituary in Aurora Daily Beacon, June 19, 1931, confirmed she was buried in Janesville, WI, but did not name the cemetery. Illinois Secretary of State online record, Cyberdrive, has correct middle initial E., but without additional details of maiden name, parents, spouse, or location of burial. Her son, Deloss, and his wife are interred in Oak Hill.
