Ila Fern Reiser passed away July 9, 2016, at Great Plains Health in North Platte, at age 92.
Ila was born Jan. 12, 1924, in rural Cherry County Nebraska to Lorenzo Dow Mercer and Alta Wiggins Mercer. She completed her early education and then attended teacher training for one year at Kearney. She then taught at several country schools.
Ila married Homer Reiser May 23, 1946, in Grand Island. They were blessed with four children.
Ila was a rancher, wife and mother. She liked her horses, cows, being outdoors, fixing fence and baking.
She was a member of United Church of Christ, a life member of American Legion Auxiliary, Sandhills Cattle Association and a Gold Star Mother.
Preceding Ila in death were her parents, L.D. and Alta Mercer; husband, Homer; two sons, Steve Reiser and Lyle Reiser; siblings, Chloie Buckler, Myron Mercer, Clifford Mercer, Berle Mercer, Merle Mercer, Stanley Mercer, Ruth McMurtery and Francis Mercer.
She is survived by children, Roger Reiser and Dixie (Brad) Hollenbeck; special family friend, Patty Stalley and family. Also surviving are siblings, Loy Mercer, Alta Chilson and Linda Galusha.
Funeral service for Ila Reiser was held Thursday July 14, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in Valentine.
Burial followed at Mount Hope Cemetery in Valentine.
Sandoz Chapel of the Pines was entrusted with funeral arrangements.
