Mr. Abrecht served in the U.S. Army. He was formerly employed in asphalt paving with various companies. He was a fan of the Washington Redskins and the Baltimore Orioles and enjoyed horseracing at Charles Town, WV.
He is survived by 3 daughters, Barbara J. Crummitt and Angie M. Page and husband Adam, all of Hagerstown, Amy K. Weddle and husband Todd of Thurmont; 2 sons, Richard W. Abrecht, Jr. and wife Sherry of Emmitsburg and Michael E. Abrecht and wife Mary of Woodsboro; 25 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and a brother, Marion Abrecht of Frederick. He was predeceased by daughter, Deborah Abrecht-Bowers; son, Patrick E. Abrecht; granddaughter, Cassie Weddle; and 3 brothers, Franklin R., Walter R. Jr. and Francis Abrecht.
The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro, from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, July 17.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 20 at the funeral home, with Deacon Charles E. Barnhart, pastor of Keysville Lutheran Church, officiating. Inurnment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Woodsboro.
