Margaret Salzle, age 92, of Milbank died November 2nd at St. William's Care Center in Milbank.

Margaret Vera Salzle was born August 31, 1914, in Rochester, New York. She was the daughter of Merton H. and Ethelyne (White) Baker. She attended school in Rochester, NY. She graduated from high school in 1933, and graduated from the Craig Colony School on Nursing in Sonyea, NY. She later attended the Inglewood Business College in Inglewood, CA.

Margaret worked as a nurse for the state of New York at a state facility. She moved to California in the fall of 1939, and worked in various nursing homes in the San Diego area. She was united in marriage on February 14, 1940, in San Diego with John Hamilton, who later died on December 7, 1941, at Pearl Harbor. During World War II, Margaret worked at Douglas Aircraft Co. in El Segundo, CA.

Margaret completed business college and worked as an accountant and assistant business manager for two school districts in California. She also was a bookkeeper for various construction companies. Margaret was united in marriage on September 6, 1958, with Matt Salzle in Inglewood, CA.

They moved to Milbank, SD in September of 1961, and Margaret worked as a teller at the First National Bank and for Davenport Construction until 1967. Margaret spearheaded the Grant County Bookmobile and was the librarian, with Matt as a driver. They retired in 1972, and moved back to California to care for her mother and manage a mobile home park until 1981.They returned to Milbank at that time and have since resided in Milbank. Matt died in 1992.

While in Milbank, Margaret was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the ladies altar society. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Birch Miller Post #9 and the VFW Auxiliary, Grant County Post #3486. She was an active volunteer with the Pink Ladies of St. Bernard's Hospital and an Oblate of St. Benedict at Blue Cloud Abbey. She also provided telephone answering service for Mundwiler Funeral Home for many years.

Margaret Salzle is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: Richard and Dorothy Hamilton of Tulare, CA and one grandson, Matthew and wife Sarah Hamilton of Tulare,CA and one great grandson, Cole Hamilton, also of Tulare, CA; one brother, Herbert Baker of Rancho Cordova, CA and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, two sisters, and two brothers.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, November 7th in the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank. Father Ken Lulf will officiate and burial will be in the St. Lawrence Cemetery.
