Sylva - Charles Lee Ashe, 68, of Joe Wilkey Road, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006, at his residence after a period of declining health.

A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he retired from Western Carolina University in the physical plant. He was an avid outdoorsman and golfer.

The son of the late James Oscar and Bertha Morrison Ashe, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Dale Ashe, and sister, Katherine Deitz.

Surviving are two sons, Terry Lee Ashe and wife, Barbara, of Whittier, and Randall Eric Ashe and fiancee, Kim McCall, of Dillsboro; his children's mother, Amelia Gail Johnson of Dandridge, Tenn.; four sisters, Violet Mae Connor of Landrum, S.C., Margaret Jane Ashe, Hazel O. Ashe and Barbara Mills, all of Speedwell; two brothers, Milas Ashe of Moncks Corner, S.C., and Johnny Ashe of Speedwell; two grandchildren, Tyler Ashe and Micayla E. Ashe.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Melton-Riddle Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Charles Carnes and Avery Brown officiating.

Burial will be in Hooper Cemetery at Speedwell.

The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home of his son, Terry Ashe, 433 Nations Creek Road, Whittier.
