Alvera Viola Peterson of Braham, MN, passed into the Loving Arms of Jesus on Wed, Jul 6, 2016, at the Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River, MN, at the age of 100 years and 15 days. Alvera was born Jun 21, 1916, the 9th of 12 children born to Emma and Axel Dahlberg of Poskin, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Eldon; her parents Axel and Emma; siblings Alma, Nettie, Carl, Axel Jr., Elmer, Arvid, Emily, Luella, Darold, and Clarence. She was baptized as an infant at the Poskin Lutheran Church and was also confirmed at that church. In 1929, at the age of 13, she moved to Braham to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Nettie and Genon Dennewith, to help care for her niece Dorothymae. Alvera graduated from Braham High School in 1934 and went to work for Braham Mercantile as the bookkeeper. A few years later she began working at Braham Lumber for Gilbert Olson until he sold the business to Roger and Bob Lang. She worked there off and on (mostly on) for 63 years as the bookkeeper. In the early 1940’s, she attended North Park College in Chicago, IL for two years and spent four years doing mission work in northern Wisconsin and in the upper peninsula of Michigan, but she would come back to Braham every year to do inventory at the lumber yard. Alvera met her future spouse, Eldon, when she moved to Braham as they both attended the Braham Covenant Church. Alvera said “he was looking at me from the beginning, but I was hard to get”. After twenty three years he was finally able to marry her on May 24, 1952. Two children were born to this marriage, Mark and Karen. Alvera loved the Lord and served Him faithfully throughout her lifetime. She was a Sunday school teacher and superintendent, served on the Church Board, and sang and played in a string band, church choir, and sang duets at church with friends. She was very involved with the Covenant Women at church and served on the board of the Braham District Covenant Women. She loved to cook and entertain family and friends and their home was always open to guest pastors and missionaries. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was always interested in their lives. Her prayer life was important to her and she spent much time praying for them and others. In 2009, Eldon and Alvera moved from their home to Elmhurst Commons in Braham. Eldon passed away Jul 22, 2010. Alvera continued to live at Elmhurst Commons until April, 2016, when she fractured her hip. Her last days were spent at Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River, MN, close to her daughter, Karen. Alvera is survived by her son: Mark (Kathy) Peterson of Crown Point, IN; daughter: Karen (Phillip) Oredson of Anoka, MN; grandchildren: Tyler, Travis (Colleen) Peterson, Janna (DJ) Brown, Anders (Betsy), Kjersten, and Erik (Shelby) Oredson; great-grandsons: Lars and Finn Oredson; great-granddaughter: Elise Oredson; sister: Freda Phillips of Eau Claire, WI; special niece: Dorothymae Scheel of Braham; sisters-in-law: Ruby Johnson of San Diego, CA, and Vivian Opsal of Minneapolis; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
