WWII veteran who served in Europe; a son of Frank Seth Shankle (1883-1948) and Maude Elizabeth Bowser (1883-1969); father of Louis, Joann and Myrna; my "Uncle Bowse". He was named for his maternal uncle, Leslie Bowser (1881-1960). (Kelly)

Leslie Ray Shankle, 55, of 703 N. McKean St. Kittanning, died at ? p.m. Monday in Deshon Veterans Hospital, Butler.

The retired laborer for Schenley Distillery Inc, Schenley, was born in West Kittanning on April 2, 1914, a son of Frank and Maude Bowser Shankle.

He was a veteran of World War II and a member of BPOE 203, Kittanning Mens Club, and VFW of Kittanning.

Survivors include his widow. Rose Gloria Betti Shankle, two daughters; Mrs. Ralph (Joanne) Swartz, Saltsburg RD 1; and Mrs. John (Myrna) Zona, Blairsville RD 2; one son, Franklin Shankle serving the Air Force at Colorado Springs; one stepson Robert, Los Angeles; two sisters, Mrs. Percy (Betty) Marshall, Kittanning MR 10; and Mrs. Georgia Freeman, Summerville; six brothers, Omer and Frank Shankle both of West Kittanning; Harry Shankle Kittanning RD 7; Walter Shankle, Kittanning RD 6; Harold Shankle, Dayton; and Delbert Shankle, Kittanning RD 5; and 13 grandchildren.

SHANKLE - Friends of Leslie Ray Shankle of 703 N McKean St., Kittanning, who died July 21, 1969 will be received after 7 p.m. today at the Merwin Funeral Home, Kittanning where service will be at ? p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Charles E. Strater, pastor of the First Church of God of Kittanning, officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Park Arrangements by Merwin.
