George D. Pecht, 89, of Box 82, McVeytown, R.D. 1, died at 10:45 a.m. Monday, October 5, 1998 at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon.


Born November 28, 1908, in Shirley Township, he was a son of the late William and Edna (Rorer) Pecht. He married the former Alice M. Vaughan February 18, 1930, in Maryland. She preceded him in death June 9, 1998.


Surviving are two children: Mrs. Ralph (Shirley) Keech, Virginia Beach, Va.; and Lyle V. Pecht, Huntingdon, R.D.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.


Also surviving are a half-brother, Donald B. Pecht, Strodes Mills, and a half-sister, Mrs. Fred (Ida Mae) Behrendt, Hershey.


He was preceded in death by three grandchildren, one great-grandson, four brothers: Charles, John, Ernest and Raymond Pecht, and one half-brother, Robert Pecht.


Mr. Pecht was a member of the Ryde United Methodist Church.


He was a farmer for 60 years, drove school bus for the Mount Union Area and Wayne Township schools for 36 years and also worked at General Refractories, Mount Union for 19 years.


Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Charlie Hicks officiating. Interment will be made in Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg, R.R. 1.


Friends will be received at the funeral home tonight, October 6, from 709 and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service.
