Mae was the daughter of James Oliver and Lillie (Scott) Thompson. She married C.A. Clift before he entered in to the service before World War II. While he was in the service, Mae worked at Tinker Field In Oklahoma sewing parachutes for the military. Following the war, Mae worked as a data processor in research and statistics for the Oklahoma City Public Schools. Mae and C.A. divorced in 1970.
Mae married John G. Mehl in 1972 and moved to Battle Creek. The couple retired in 1985 and moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma where they lived until 2002 and moved back to Battle Creek to be closer to family. He preceded her in death on November 23, 2006.
Mae was a member of Saint John Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. She was an avid seamstress and she enjoyed sewing intricate garments such as Barbie Doll clothes and baby layettes. Mae enjoyed needle work, knitting, reading, pottery, angels, hummingbirds, any thing pink especially roses, and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Leslie (Timothy) Coe; stepsons, Gary (Pam) Mehl, Timothy (Pat) Mehl; stepdaughters, Sharon Mehl, Linda Mehl, Susan Mehl; grandchildren, David (Kristin) Coe, Andrew (Rebekka) Mehl, Kelly Mehl, Aaron (Heather) Mehl, Corrie Ann Mehl; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Bobbie Heftner and Joyce (Tom) Woolard and special friends Jo, Darlene and Joyce.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, step son John Meh, four brothers and one sister.
Family will gather with friends on Thursday July 7, 2016 at Saint John Lutheran Church, with a memorial service taking place with Pastor Cary Grant officiating.
Memorial contributions are requested to the Saint John Lutheran Church.
Per Mae's wishes cremation has taken place and a private graveside service was held at a later date.
