Hannah Starnes Barnhill was the first child of Jesse and Eleanor Watts Starnes and was born about 1828. The 1900 U. S. Federal Census states that she was born in July, 1828. She married Isaac P. Barnhill about 1849. Hannah Barnhill's middle name is not known. In the U. S. Federal Census her middle initial is listed as "K," which has led many people to state that her middle name was Katherine. But she had a younger sister named Catherine who married William Thomas Roberts and lived in Caldwell County, NC. So it is unlikely that Katherine was her middle name.

The exact date of her death is unknown. But her husband, Isaac P. Barnhill, married his second wife, Prudence Blankenship, on 05 Mar, 1906 in Alexander County, NC. Therefore it is reasonable to estimate that Hannah Starnes Barnhill died in 1904 or 1905.
