Donald Ray "Snooze" Dawes 1934 - 2016
Donald Ray “Snooze” Dawes, 82, of Johnston City passed away at 4:45 a.m., Wednesday, June 29, 2016 in Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin, with his loving wife by his side. Donnie born June 10, 1934 in Johnston City to Elmer and Edna (Rodden) Dawes. He married Linda Hinckle on August 2, 1958 in Harrisburg. Together they have shared over 57 years of marriage. Donnie was retired, having been employed by Allen Industries for 35 years. He was also a heating and air conditioning repairman. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served his country honorably. Donnie attended the Christian Worship Center in West Frankfort. He was a member of the NRA. He loved to hunt turkey, quail and doves. He enjoyed going fishing with his family. He loved his children and grandchildren more than life itself. He loved to watch his grandchildren play sports and extracurricular activities at school. Survivors include his wife, Linda of Johnston City; three daughters, Deborah (Kurt) Griffith of West Frankfort, Laura (Scott) Gregge of Johnston City and Lisa (Gary) Followell of Johnston City; six grandchildren, Nick Griffith and fiancé Morgan Jennings of Herrin, Whitney and Levi Gregge of Johnston City, Lanie Followell and fiancé Jimmy Goodman of Marion and Kylie and Conner Followell of Johnston City; two brothers, Ted (Lynn) Dawes of Daytona Beach, FL, Kenny Dawes of Lick Creek; two sisters, Patsy Sanders of Little Rock, AR and Delores Carey of Goreville. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Steven Dawes; infant daughter, Melanie Lynn Dawes and five brothers, Douglas, Jack, Walt, Bob and J.W. “Jabber” Dawes. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 1, 2016 in Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City with Toedy Holley-Gray officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Military rites will be accorded by members of the Illinois National Guard Military Honors Team. Visitation will be 11a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Johnston City High School Marching Band. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
