Kenneth Karns, 70, of 604 North 5th Avenue, Marshalltown, died Thursday afternoon, March 24th, at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Born on November 6th, 1934, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Lester and Ruby (Rousse) Karns. He received his education in Zearing and then moved to Marshalltown where he began employment at Fisher Controls. Soon after, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served honorably until 1956. He returned to Marshalltown to continue working for Fishers until his retirement in 1992.
On July 12th, 1958, he was united in marriage to Shirley Praska at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshalltown.
Left to mourn his loss are his loving wife of 46 years, Shirley who resides at their home, four dear children: Kelly D. (companion Karen) Karns of Dallas, Texas, Kent D. (Sherry) Karns of Marshalltown, Shelly (Kevin) Lynk of Marshalltown and Kip (companion Angela) of Marshalltown, his precious grandchildren Ashley, Shaybree, Nicole, Sidney, Heather and Kameron and great-grandson Dylan, his fond siblings: Betty (Frank) Foster of Marshalltown, Carlton (Theresa) Karns of Saint Anthony, Larry (Virginia) Karns of State Center, Margaret (the late Leon) Ridout of Garland, Texas, the late Richard (Barb Williams) of Marshalltown, the late Stan (Linda) Karns of Marshalltown, Dr. Albert "Britt" (the late Donna) Karns of Joplin, MO., and Reta (Kenneth) Oetker of Marshalltown, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. In death he has rejoined his parents, his brothers Stan and Richard, brother-in-law Leon, sister-in-law Donna and mother and father-in-law Gertrude and Ralph Praska.
