Lawrence Joseph Karns, 82, of State Center, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2014, at State Center Nursing and Rehab.

Services will be Saturday, May 24, 2014, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Josephs Catholic Church in State Center, Iowa. Memorials may be directed towards the National Kidney Foundation.

Larry was born on July 1, 1931, to Lester and Ruby Rousea Karns in Central City, South Dakota. Larry was in the United States Army from 1951 until 1953. In 1956, Larry married Virginia "Ginny" Cochran at the Sacred Heart Church in St. Anthony. Larry had been employed with the City of Marshalltown as a driver before he retired in 1979. Larry liked to bowl, fish, and hunt.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Ginny; children: James (Bev) Karns of Red Oak, and Brad (Leigh Ann) Karns of Garwin; Grandchildren: Cody (Abby) Frason of Des Moines, Krysti (Kyle) Krull of Garwin, and Jennifer Karns of Garwin. Great grandchildren: Mattox and Caden. Siblings: Betty (Frank) Foster of Madrid, Carlton Karns of St Anthony, Margaret Ridout of Texas, Britt Karns of Missouri, and Rita (Kenny) Oetker of Marshalltown. Sister in laws: Shirley Karns, Linda Karns, and Barb Williams; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceeded in death by his parents, brothers: Kenny, Stan, and Dick Karns; and sisters in law: Theresa and Donna Karns.
