Born in Rural township September 17, 1843 Mary Cheney grew to womanhood there and when but a girl of 17 she was united in marriage to Edwin McCartney. The family removed to Rock Island 35 years ago. After Mr. McCartney's death eight years ago Mrs. McCartney made her home with her son at whose home the end came.
Four sons and two daughters survive: R. W. and Arthur A. of Rock Island, Francis A., of Ipswich, S. D., W. S. McCartney of Howard, S. D., Mrs. Anna Norman of Buffalo Mo., and Mrs. E. G. Olson of Los Angeles. Two sisters also mourn Mrs. Hannah Coffee of Eldora, Iowa, and Mrs. Ellen Metzler of Rural being the only members of the Cheney family still living.
Always a devout Christion Mrs. McCartney was for years a member of the Memorial Christian church. Rev. M. E. Chatley will conduct the funeral services, which will be held at the home of R. W. McCartney at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Burial will be in Chippiannock.
