He married Ella Heiser on March 23, 1941 and moved to Aberdeen, SD in 1944. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church for 71 years and pitched on the Zion and Lagers softball teams for many years.
Walter worked for Wilson Trucking and Hyman Transportation and was a member of the Teamsters Union. Walter and Ella went dancing at the Elks Club every Saturday night. They were members of the Aberdeen Couples Bridge Marathon for many years. He was an avid fisherman and loved pheasant hunting with his son, grandson and his great granddaughters. In retirement, he joined the Senior Center playing cards 4 days a week until the age of 94 when they moved to Grand Rapids, MN to be closer to his family.
Preceding him in death were his parents, stepfather, four brothers and four sisters.
Walter is survived by his wife, Ella; son, Ronald (Kay); grandson, Brad (Paula) Klingman; granddaughter, Dawn (Tim) McNeil and four great-grandchildren.
