Mrs. Ellen Hickey, widow of Christopher Hickey, occurred at her home, 138 Lock St. at 7:30am today. Mrs. Hickey who was 68 years old was born in County Longford, Ireland.
In coming to this country she located at Fonda. In Amsterdam about fifty years ago she married to Mr. Hickey and shortly after their marriage they came to Rome. The death of Mr. Hickey occurred in this city four years ago next October. Surviving are two sons, and two daughters, Bernard of this city and James H. of Paterson, NJ, Mrs. John McChrien and Miss Margaret Hickey of this city. Mrs. Hickey was a member of St. Peter's Church. During her long residence here by her charitable disposition and kindly ways she made many friends who will regret to learn of her death.

There appears to be some discrepancy in her actual date of birth. The person who created this memorial listed 1830 as a date of birth. Per Ancestry she arrived in the USA from Ireland in 1850, a servant girl aged 16 years. In the 1855 census she was listed as being 20 years old, and in 1875 she was listed as being 42. In June of 1880 she was 45. And in 1900 she was 65. Her obituary states at her time of death she was 68, which would mean she was born around 1838. Since I do not know the actual year of birth and am unsure as to the source used by the person who created the memorial I have not changed the year of birth even though I do not (based upon several other sources) believe it to be accurate.
