Died. James John Briel, 79, for many years owner and operator of a hardware store in Karthaus until he retired in 1960 and came with his wife to live in Lock Haven, died yesterday at 1:10 p.m. in the Lock Haven Nursing Home. His residence was 106 E. Main St. He had entered the nursing home six weeks ago. Mr. Briel was a native of Karthaus, son of John S. and Lucy Hugar Briel. He retired due to failing health. Surviving are his wife, the former Emma Fowler, two daughters, Mrs. L. G. McEvoy Altoona; Mrs. W. A. McGowan, McLean, Va.; also four sisters and a brother, Miss Ida Briel, Karthaus; Mrs. M. G. Maines, Philadelphia; Mrs. W. L. Maines, Media; Mrs. John S. Smith, and G. S. Briel, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

BRIEL — Requiem high mass will be celebrated Friday at 9 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church by the Rev. Eugene C. Parrish, pastor, for James John Briel, 79, of 100 E. Main St., who died Tuesday, June 29, 1965 at 1:10 p.m. in the Lock Haven Nursing Home. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Moriarty Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Thursday. Moriarty Funeral Home, Lock Haven.
