Roy William Bayliss Jr., 92, of Winchester, Virginia, died Saturday, June 18, 2016.

Roy was born on September 20, 1923 in Kernstown, Virginia, the son of the late Roy W. Bayliss Sr. and Rachel Ritter Bayliss.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Geraldine (Gerri) Gill Bayliss; four sons, R. William (Bill) Bayliss III and wife Pam, Stephen Phillip Bayliss, Daniel Scott Bayliss and wife Sylvie, and Brian Gill Bayliss and wife Jennifer; three grandsons, five granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Philip Bayliss; and three sisters, Yvonne Claytor, Audrey Boyce, and Grace Spurling.

Roy graduated from Stephens City High School, Class of 1942 and was president of his senior class. He enlisted in the Naval Air Corps during WWII, where he served for four years as a senior officer in the Pacific on the Martin PBM rescue plane.

After returning to Kernstown, he enrolled at the University of Virginia, earning his degree in electrical engineering in 1950.

He then came home and went to work for Baker and Anderson Electric Company for 25 years, when he started his own business, Heritage Electrical Contractors and finally retired from Lockheed Martin.

Roy was a member of Opequon Presbyterian Church for 85 years, where he served as a Teaching Elder and Lay Pastor. He served the Winchester and Shenandoah Presbyteries in many capacities.

Roy was a member of the UVA Alumni Association, past president of the Winchester Rotary Club, a Silver Beaver honoree of the Boy Scouts of America and served on the Winchester Common Counsel for 12 years working with Tom Malcolm of Frederick County to draft the Joint Judicial Center Agreement.

He was an avid gardener and enjoyed creating gardens where ever they lived.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday June 25, 2016 at Opequon Presbyterian Church, 217 Opequon Church Lane, Winchester, Virginia, 22602 with Pastor David Witt officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Opequon Presbyterian Church at the same address or Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, VA 22601.
