Donald Edward Hawkins, 78, Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 12, 2016. He was born on May 31, 1938 to the late Raymond H. and Josephine D. (Harmeson) Hawkins in Lafayette, IN. Don worked for many years as an accountant and was a dedicated member of St. Mary's Catholic church in North Vernon. He had an unending love for animals and spent much of his life finding homes for strays. He even owned a pet shop for a portion of his life and, to get away, escaped to his farm in North Vernon where he could be with the animals and garden. Antiquing was also one of Don's passions. He was known for buying and selling beautiful antiques all his life.

Survivors include his brothers, Raymond F. Hawkins (Nancy( and Ronald W. Smith (Lindy); sister-in-laws, Par and Jenny Hawkins; special friend, Diana short (Darryl); canine companion Molly; and many nieces and nephews; as well as many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by special friend; Basil "Duane" Hagen; parents, Raymond and Josephine Hawkins; devoted friends, Carl Bowles and Marvel Rickett; brithers, Harry, Thomas, Richard, Robert and Gerald Hawkins; and sister, Delores Hawkins.

A graveside service will take place Friday, June 24, 2016 at 11 am in Spring Vale Cemetery, 2580 Schuyler Avenue, Lafayette, IN 47905. Arrangements and care were provided by Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services.
