He graduated from Nashville High School in 1963 where he excelled as a four-sport letterman. During his senior year, he set the 120 yard high hurdles record at the Division A state track meet and was selected as West Team co-captain at the Arkansas High School All Star football game. He attended Henderson State University on a football and track scholarship. He met and married his wife, Lana, while a student at Henderson.
He graduated in 1967 with a BSE degree and began his coaching career at Stuttgart, where he coached track and football. His track teams won five consecutive regional championships, and he was a member of the coaching staff when Stuttgart won the state championship in football against a great Arkadelphia team in 1970. He and his family moved to Benton in 1972 when he became a coach for Benton High School. He then moved to Benton Junior High as principal when Eastside and Westside Jr. Highs were combined. He served there until his retirement.
He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, and family camping and beach trips. He also enjoyed following his grandchildren as they participated in school activities and sporting events. After his retirement, he and Lana enjoyed traveling with family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Scott Tollett (Kim); daughter, Tami Croushore; grandchildren, Kinzi, Cade, and Carson Tollett and Jake and Kaylee Croushore; siblings, Don, Ralph, and Jay Tollett (Terre) and Judy Stewart (Jerry); and sister-in-law Judi Jones (Terry).
Funeral services are scheduled for 12:30 p.m., Friday, June 17, 2016 in the chapel of Roller-Ballard Funeral Home in Benton (501-315-4047) with Jim Gardner officiating. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander.
Visitation is from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 16, 2016 at the funeral home.
