Brother Thomas Holland Bottomley was widowed in 1875, when his wife, Sarah Ann, died aged 31 shortly after giving birth to their son Leonard. She was buried in St Paul's Churchyard in Stalybridge with their baby daughter Emily who died aged 1 month in January 1871.

On 23rd July 1876, Mother Maria Bottomley died aged 58. She is buried in the family grave in St James's churchyard.

In 1877, brother Thomas Holland Bottomley married Elizabeth Braddock Orr at St Paul's Church in Stalybridge.

In 1878, brother William Bottomley, married Mary Agnes Bradbury and that same year, his father James Bottomley remarried. His second wife was Robina Wilson nee Bradbury. They married at St Paul's Church in Stalybridge.

In 1879 brother James Bottomley (junior) married Ester (Esther) Ellen Hyde on 14th May 1879 in St Helier in Jersey. Later that same year on 9th October, brother Herbert married Jane Meredith at Worfield in Shropshire.

Abel was a J.P. (Justice of the Peace) by the time of his death at Bank House, Mottram Road, Stalybridge, aged 77, on 2nd April 1927. His estate was valued at over 8700 pounds when he died. Abel is buried here in St James's Churchyard, his wife and two of his children are named on the tombstone at the rear of the church.

FAMILY
Wife Elizabeth Ann Bottomley died at 309 Huddersfield Road, Stalybridge, aged 84, on 3rd August 1936. She is buried here with Abel. Her estate was valued at 87 pounds when she died.

Son Roland was married sometime between 1912 and 1919. His wife was Rebecca Hepburn and the first time she is listed in the online records as Roland's wife is on a return passage from India in 1921, aboard the ship 'City of Poona'. She was around 19 years his junior. Roland is described as a 'Master Carder' and their 18 month old son travels with them. In 1939, Roland and Rebecca Bottomley lived at their shop at 9 Hanover Street, Stalybridge. He was at that time a Radio and Cycle Dealer, Machanic, Fitter and Turner. A number of closed entries on the 1939 register suggest they had several children, which may or may not include Joseph b1924, Elizabeth b1927, Edna b1929 and Stuart b1930. Roland junior appears to have died aged 7 in 1927. Roland Bottomley died at 9 Hanover Street, Stalybridge, aged 80, on 22nd December 1956. His estate was valued at 780 pounds when he died.

Daughter Myra married in New Zealand in 1903. Her husband was James Herbert Thompson. They had at least 2 children together. Myra died in Waikato, New Zealand, aged 42, on 2nd April 1922. She is buried in Waihi cemetery with her family.

Daughter Agnes married Joseph Burgess in 1914, in the Ashton-under-Lyne registration area. In 1939, Agnes and Joseph Burgess, who was an Architect, lived at 309 Huddersfield Road, Stalybridge. Joseph died in Stalybridge in January 1951, aged 67. Agnes was still living at 309 Huddersfield Road, Stalybridge when she died in St Asaph Hospital in North Wales, aged 77, on 5th September 1958. Her estate was valued at over 9000 pounds when she died.

Daughter Christine married John Herbert Illingworth Radcliffe in 1914, in the Ashton-under-Lyne registration area. She lived at 12 Cranworth Street, Stalybridge, when she died in the Cheadle Royal Mental Hospital, aged 56, on 30th July 1939. Her estate was valued at over 1420 pounds when she died. She is buried here in the family grave in St James's Churchyard. her husband continued to live in Stalybridge where he was a School Headmaster. He died aged 82 in 1967.

Son Noel married Esther Kershaw in 1912, at St Chad's Church in Uppermill. They had at least three children together, including their son Noel Kershaw Bottomley who is buried with them here in St James's Churchyard. Noel died at Bank House, Mottram Road, Stalybridge, aged 54, on 16th September 1939, just a few weeks after his sister Christine. His estate was valued at over 9200 pounds when he died. His wife Esther died in the Stockport area, aged 85, on 8th June 1975.

Son Cyril Bottomley was living in lodgings in Shotton near the Welsh border in 1911. He was a single man employed as an Engineer's Draughtsman at the Steelworks. Cyril Bottomley married Maggie Bottomley in the Saddleworth registration area in 1912. He was a Freemason in 1916 at the Traveller's Lodge in Chester. Cyril continued to work in Shotton. On the 1939 register, Cyril lived in Connah's Quay and was still a Mechanical Engineer at the Steelworks. He died at 29 Highbury Avenue, Prestatyn, aged 83, on 7th February 1970.

Daughter Doris married Gilbert Stanley Hibbert in 1915, in the Ashton-under-Lyne registration area. They had at least two children together. In 1939, the couple were living at Hillcrest in Disley and Gilbert was employed as a Researcher in the Textile Finishing Industry. Recently widowed sister-in-law Esther Kershaw and her daughter Gwen were their guests. Doris died in Disley, aged 84, on 19th January 1974. her estate was valued at over 12700 pounds when she died.

Father James Bottomley, aged 65 and stepmother Robina Bottomley, aged 52, were staying at a boarding house in Matlock Bath in 1881. James was described as a Farmer and Waste Dealer. James Bottomley died in Stalybridge, aged 73 on 28th February 1889. His wife Robina died aged 76 on 1st February 1904 and is buried in the family grave here in St James's Churchyard with James and his family.

Brother John Bottomley as already mentioned set up home at Hill Top after his marriage. In 1871, he was a Cotton Waste Dealer and lived with his wife Mary and their 5 children at, 5 Near Sour Acre in Stalybridge. Mary died between 1874 and 1878. John Bottomley married Cecily Wood in 1878, at St Paul's Church in Stalybridge. In 1881, he was a Cotton Waste Dealer living with Cecily and his 10 children at Hartley Terrace in Millbrook Stalybridge. The 1891 census shows the family lived at 198 Huddersfield Road, Stalybridge and John was still a Cotton Waste Dealer. In 1901, they were still at the same address and John was listed as an 'Employer' in his Cotton Waste Dealership. By 1911, John Bottomley had retired and lived with his wife and married daughter at Hartley Terrace in Millbrook, Stalybridge. He still lived at that address when he died in the Ashton-under-Lyne hospital, aged 76, on 10th April 1915. His estate was valued at over 7900 pounds.

Brother Thomas Holland Bottomley lived with his wife and her widowed mother Harriet and brother Joseph in 1871, at Acres Lane, Stalybridge. He was employed as a Waste Dealer. Thomas was widowed in 1875, when his wife, Sarah Ann, died aged 31. In 1877, Thomas Holland Bottomley, married Elizabeth Braddock Orr at St Paul's Church in Stalybridge. In 1881 Thomas and Elizabeth and their 3 young children lived at 187 Mottram Road, Stalybridge. He was employed as a Cotton Waste Dealer. Elizabeth Braddock Bottomley died in Stalybridge, aged 38, in 1883. In 1884, twice widowed Thomas Holland Bottomley married Mabel Jane King, at St Paul's Church in Stalybridge. In 1891, Thomas and Mabel and 5 of their children lived at 'The Wood' in Millbrook, Stalybridge. He was employed as a Farmer and Cotton Waste Dealer. They were still at the same address in 1901 and Thomas was shown as an 'Employer' in his Cotton Waste Dealership. He died at that address on 26th June 1901. His estate was valued at over 4900 pounds. Thomas Holland Bottomley and his wife Mabel Jane Bottomley are buried in St James's Churchyard and are named on the headstone marking their grave.

Brother William was living next door to his Thomas in 1881, at 185 Mottram Road, Stalybridge. He was also a Cotton Waste Dealer and shared the house with his wife Mary, young daughter, Lena and a general servant. By 1891, the family had grown with the birth of two more children. They were living in Southport and William was still a Cotton Waste Dealer. The 1901 census shows William as a J.P. (Justice of the Peace). He is listed as an 'Employer' in his cotton waste dealership and still lived in Southport with his wife Mary and two of their children. The 1911 census shows William and his wife Mary lived at 43 Derby Road, Southport. Their house consisted of 8 rooms and they had a servant living in. William was described as an 'Employer' Cotton Merchant. he died at that address aged 68, on 18th April 1912. His estate was valued at over 1500 pounds when he died. William is buried with his wife Mary in Duke Street Cemetery in Southport. They are both named on the headstone.

Annie Maria Buckley became a widow in 1880, when her husband Jesse died at the age of 32. Two of their children had also died by this time. Mary Gertrude born 1875 had died in 1878 and Jesse Ernest born 1879 died three days after his father. All three are named on their headstone in Mossley Cemetery.
On the 1881 census, Annie lived at 6 St Albans Terrace, Castle Road, in Torquay with her three surviving children, James Arthur, Mary Ethel and Edward Wilfred. Two servants lived with them. In 1891, Annie lived at 282 Lytham Road, Blackpool with the three children. James Arthur was a Chemist's Apprentice. A servant lived in with the family. On the 1901 census, Annie who was living on her own means and her youngest son Edward, who was a Bank Clerk, were living at 4 Bright Street in Blackpool. Annie's whereabouts on the 1911 census are unknown, but she died at 27 Percy Avenue, Monkseaton near Whitley Bay, aged 79, on 28th August 1927. She is buried in the family grave in Mossley Cemetery. Her estate was valued at over 1400 pounds when she died.

Brother James was also a Cotton Waste Dealer and in 1881 he was also listed as a Town Councillor. He lived with his wife Esther and their baby daughter at 92 Wakefield Road, Stalybridge. The 1891 census shows James and Esther and their daughter Sarah living at Glent House, Wakefield Road, Stalybridge. Esther's brother, also a Cotton Waste Dealer, shares the address and there is a domestic servant living in. In 1901, nothing has changed for the family and Esther's brother, James Henry Hyde continues to live with them. James and his brother-in-law are described as 'Employers' in the cotton waste dealership. The 1911 census shows James and his wife Esther still living at The Glent on Wakefield Road, Stalybridge along with a live in servant. The house has 8 rooms. James is still an 'Employer Cotton Waste Merchant'. James Bottomley died at that address, aged 80, on 29th November 1931. His estate was valued at over 40,000 pounds when he died. He is buried in St Paul's Churchyard in Stalybridge. This burial ground has been grassed over and no headstone has been found.

Brother Herbert lived at 42 Market Street, Manchester and County Bank in 1881, with his wife Jane and a domestic servant. He was employed as a Bank Cashier. By 1891, Herbert was a Bank Manager and lived at Sidebottom Fold, with his wife Jane and their two young children, Margaret and Rupert. In 1901, the family of 4 were still living at the same address and Herbert was still a Bank Manager. A domestic servant was living with them. Herbert died at The Fold, Stalybridge, aged 53, on 24th November 1907. His estate was valued at over 3500 pounds when he died. Herbert is named on his parents headstone here in St James's Churchyard where he is buried.

Abel was a J.P. (Justice of the Peace) by the time of his death at Bank House, Mottram Road, Stalybridge, aged 77, on 2nd April 1927. His estate was valued at over 8700 pounds when he died. Abel is buried here in St James's Churchyard, his wife and two of his children are named on the tombstone at the rear of the church.

Wife Elizabeth Ann Bottomley died at 309 Huddersfield Road, Stalybridge, aged 84, on 3rd August 1936. She is buried here with Abel. Her estate was valued at 87 pounds when she died.

Son Roland was married sometime between 1912 and 1919. His wife was Rebecca Hepburn and the first time she is listed in the online records as Roland's wife is on a return passage from India in 1921, aboard the ship 'City of Poona'. She was around 19 years his junior. Roland is described as a 'Master Carder' and their 18 month old son travels with them. In 1939, Roland and Rebecca Bottomley lived at their shop at 9 Hanover Street, Stalybridge. He was at that time a Radio and Cycle Dealer, Machanic, Fitter and Turner. A number of closed entries on the 1939 register suggest they had several children, which may or may not include Joseph b1924, Elizabeth b1927, Edna b1929 and Stuart b1930. Roland junior appears to have died aged 7 in 1927. Roland Bottomley died at 9 Hanover Street, Stalybridge, aged 80, on 22nd December 1956. His estate was valued at 780 pounds when he died.

Daughter Myra married in New Zealand in 1903. Her husband was James Herbert Thompson. They had at least 2 children together. Myra died in Waikato, New Zealand, aged 42, on 2nd April 1922. She is buried in Waihi cemetery with her family.

Daughter Agnes married Joseph Burgess in 1914, in the Ashton-under-Lyne registration area. In 1939, Agnes and Joseph Burgess, who was an Architect, lived at 309 Huddersfield Road, Stalybridge. Joseph died in Stalybridge in January 1951, aged 67. Agnes was still living at 309 Huddersfield Road, Stalybridge when she died in St Asaph Hospital in North Wales, aged 77, on 5th September 1958. Her estate was valued at over 9000 pounds when she died.

Daughter Christine married John Herbert Illingworth Radcliffe in 1914, in the Ashton-under-Lyne registration area. She lived at 12 Cranworth Street, Stalybridge, when she died in the Cheadle Royal Mental Hospital, aged 56, on 30th July 1939. Her estate was valued at over 1420 pounds when she died. She is buried here in the family grave in St James's Churchyard. her husband continued to live in Stalybridge where he was a School Headmaster. He died aged 82 in 1967.

Son Noel married Esther Kershaw in 1912, at St Chad's Church in Uppermill. They had at least three children together, including their son Noel Kershaw Bottomley who is buried with them here in St James's Churchyard. Noel died at Bank House, Mottram Road, Stalybridge, aged 54, on 16th September 1939, just a few weeks after his sister Christine. His estate was valued at over 9200 pounds when he died. His wife Esther died in the Stockport area, aged 85, on 8th June 1975.

Son Cyril Bottomley was living in lodgings in Shotton near the Welsh border in 1911. He was a single man employed as an Engineer's Draughtsman at the Steelworks. Cyril Bottomley married Maggie Bottomley in the Saddleworth registration area in 1912. He was a Freemason in 1916 at the Traveller's Lodge in Chester. Cyril continued to work in Shotton. On the 1939 register, Cyril lived in Connah's Quay and was still a Mechanical Engineer at the Steelworks. He died at 29 Highbury Avenue, Prestatyn, aged 83, on 7th February 1970.

Daughter Doris married Gilbert Stanley Hibbert in 1915, in the Ashton-under-Lyne registration area. They had at least two children together. In 1939, the couple were living at Hillcrest in Disley and Gilbert was employed as a Researcher in the Textile Finishing Industry. Recently widowed sister-in-law Esther Kershaw and her daughter Gwen were their guests. Doris died in Disley, aged 84, on 19th January 1974. her estate was valued at over 12700 pounds when she died.

Father James Bottomley, aged 65 and stepmother Robina Bottomley, aged 52, were staying at a boarding house in Matlock Bath in 1881. James was described as a Farmer and Waste Dealer. James Bottomley died in Stalybridge, aged 73 on 28th February 1889. His wife Robina died aged 76 on 1st February 1904 and is buried in the family grave here in St James's Churchyard with James and his family.

Brother John Bottomley as already mentioned set up home at Hill Top after his marriage. In 1871, he was a Cotton Waste Dealer and lived with his wife Mary and their 5 children at, 5 Near Sour Acre in Stalybridge. Mary died between 1874 and 1878. John Bottomley married Cecily Wood in 1878, at St Paul's Church in Stalybridge. In 1881, he was a Cotton Waste Dealer living with Cecily and his 10 children at Hartley Terrace in Millbrook Stalybridge. The 1891 census shows the family lived at 198 Huddersfield Road, Stalybridge and John was still a Cotton Waste Dealer. In 1901, they were still at the same address and John was listed as an 'Employer' in his Cotton Waste Dealership. By 1911, John Bottomley had retired and lived with his wife and married daughter at Hartley Terrace in Millbrook, Stalybridge. He still lived at that address when he died in the Ashton-under-Lyne hospital, aged 76, on 10th April 1915. His estate was valued at over 7900 pounds.

Brother Thomas Holland Bottomley lived with his wife and her widowed mother Harriet and brother Joseph in 1871, at Acres Lane, Stalybridge. He was employed as a Waste Dealer. Thomas was widowed in 1875, when his wife, Sarah Ann, died aged 31. In 1877, Thomas Holland Bottomley, married Elizabeth Braddock Orr at St Paul's Church in Stalybridge. In 1881 Thomas and Elizabeth and their 3 young children lived at 187 Mottram Road, Stalybridge. He was employed as a Cotton Waste Dealer. Elizabeth Braddock Bottomley died in Stalybridge, aged 38, in 1883. In 1884, twice widowed Thomas Holland Bottomley married Mabel Jane King, at St Paul's Church in Stalybridge. In 1891, Thomas and Mabel and 5 of their children lived at 'The Wood' in Millbrook, Stalybridge. He was employed as a Farmer and Cotton Waste Dealer. They were still at the same address in 1901 and Thomas was shown as an 'Employer' in his Cotton Waste Dealership. He died at that address on 26th June 1901. His estate was valued at over 4900 pounds. Thomas Holland Bottomley and his wife Mabel Jane Bottomley are buried in St James's Churchyard and are named on the headstone marking their grave.

Brother William was living next door to his Thomas in 1881, at 185 Mottram Road, Stalybridge. He was also a Cotton Waste Dealer and shared the house with his wife Mary, young daughter, Lena and a general servant. By 1891, the family had grown with the birth of two more children. They were living in Southport and William was still a Cotton Waste Dealer. The 1901 census shows William as a J.P. (Justice of the Peace). He is listed as an 'Employer' in his cotton waste dealership and still lived in Southport with his wife Mary and two of their children. The 1911 census shows William and his wife Mary lived at 43 Derby Road, Southport. Their house consisted of 8 rooms and they had a servant living in. William was described as an 'Employer' Cotton Merchant. he died at that address aged 68, on 18th April 1912. His estate was valued at over 1500 pounds when he died. William is buried with his wife Mary in Duke Street Cemetery in Southport. They are both named on the headstone.

Annie Maria Buckley became a widow in 1880, when her husband Jesse died at the age of 32. Two of their children had also died by this time. Mary Gertrude born 1875 had died in 1878 and Jesse Ernest born 1879 died three days after his father. All three are named on their headstone in Mossley Cemetery.
On the 1881 census, Annie lived at 6 St Albans Terrace, Castle Road, in Torquay with her three surviving children, James Arthur, Mary Ethel and Edward Wilfred. Two servants lived with them. In 1891, Annie lived at 282 Lytham Road, Blackpool with the three children. James Arthur was a Chemist's Apprentice. A servant lived in with the family. On the 1901 census, Annie who was living on her own means and her youngest son Edward, who was a Bank Clerk, were living at 4 Bright Street in Blackpool. Annie's whereabouts on the 1911 census are unknown, but she died at 27 Percy Avenue, Monkseaton near Whitley Bay, aged 79, on 28th August 1927. She is buried in the family grave in Mossley Cemetery. Her estate was valued at over 1400 pounds when she died.

Brother James was also a Cotton Waste Dealer and in 1881 he was also listed as a Town Councillor. He lived with his wife Esther and their baby daughter at 92 Wakefield Road, Stalybridge. The 1891 census shows James and Esther and their daughter Sarah living at Glent House, Wakefield Road, Stalybridge. Esther's brother, also a Cotton Waste Dealer, shares the address and there is a domestic servant living in. In 1901, nothing has changed for the family and Esther's brother, James Henry Hyde continues to live with them. James and his brother-in-law are described as 'Employers' in the cotton waste dealership. The 1911 census shows James and his wife Esther still living at The Glent on Wakefield Road, Stalybridge along with a live in servant. The house has 8 rooms. James is still an 'Employer Cotton Waste Merchant'. James Bottomley died at that address, aged 80, on 29th November 1931. His estate was valued at over 40,000 pounds when he died. He is buried in St Paul's Churchyard in Stalybridge. This burial ground has been grassed over and no headstone has been found.

Brother Herbert lived at 42 Market Street, Manchester and County Bank in 1881, with his wife Jane and a domestic servant. He was employed as a Bank Cashier. By 1891, Herbert was a Bank Manager and lived at Sidebottom Fold, with his wife Jane and their two young children, Margaret and Rupert. In 1901, the family of 4 were still living at the same address and Herbert was still a Bank Manager. A domestic servant was living with them. Herbert died at The Fold, Stalybridge, aged 53, on 24th November 1907. His estate was valued at over 3500 pounds when he died. Herbert is named on his parents headstone here in St James's Churchyard where he is buried.
