L. W. BANTA DIES AT LORAINE

Lawrence William Banta, 86, whose (Grand) father, Isaac Banta helped lay out the plot of land for the city of Greenville, and who's father was Greenville's first tax assessor and collector, died Monday morning at 3:30 o'clock in a Loraine, Tex. hospital. He had been ill since last Wednesday.

Funeral services are pending the arrival of a son, Paul Banta, from Alaska. Services and burial will be held in Sweetwater, Texas.

Born in Yantis, Tex. September 22, 1871, Mr. Banta was the (Grand)son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Banta, who were early farmers of Hunt County's rich black soil. He had lived in and near Greenville and was a member of the Baptist Church.

He is the last living child of Henry and Susan Banta, early settlers in this section. Mr. Henry Banta was the first tax assessor and collector when the city of Greenville was organized.

Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Sue Brigman and Mrs. H. A. Lilly, Greenville; two sons, Paul Banta, Alaska, and W. K. Banta, Colorado City, Tex., 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Five sons preceded him in death.

BANTA RITES HELD IN SWEETWATER

Funeral services for L. W. Banta, 86, were held at the Fundamental Baptist Church in Sweetwater Saturday, Sept. 26, at 2 p.m.

The Rev. A. L. Patterson, pastor, conducted the funeral. Arrangements were in charge of the Patterson Funeral Home.

Born near Yantis, Tex., Sept. 22, 1871, he was the last living child of Hunt County's first tax assessor and collector, the late Henry and Susan Banta, who lived many years near Greenville. Mr. Banta had been a member of the Baptist church since early manhood. He moved West some years ago and established a home in Loraine, Tex. where he died at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, W. K. Banta, Colorado City, Tex., and Paul Banta, Fillmore, Calif.; two daughters, Susie Lou Brigman and Mrs. H. A. Lilly, both of Greenville; three step-children, O. W. Alexander, Sweetwater, A. B. Alexander, Mineral Wells, and Mrs. R. M. Mote, Colorado City; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Five sons preceded him in death.
