Dallas Rhea Clark, US NAVY Retired Chief Petty Officer

NORFOLK - Dallas Rhea Clark (8-1-10), US Navy Retired Chief Petty Officer, Norfolk, Va., died on February 18, 2005. He was a P.O.W. for three years, having been on the USS Houston (Which sank in the Java Sea Battle in February, 1942). He joyfully returned to his home in Waynesville on Thanksgiving Day, 1945.

He and his daughter (Linda Clark Condon) were in a tragic fire accident in their home on February 17th. Linda died several hours before Mr. Clark (who died the following day).

Surviving him are his sister, Mabel Clark Corpening of Winston-Salem; two grandsons, Kristopher S. Condon and Graham D. Condon; his son-in-law, Gary D. Condon, all of Norfolk; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

Preceding him in death was Almarie Robinson Clark, his wife of 50 years; his parents, Dee and Nellie Rhea Clark; four brothers Robert Hugh, Jack and Ned; and one sister Marguerite Clark Carver.

His burial service will be held in Arlington National Cemetery on March 22 at 3 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the First Methodist Church in Waynesville, on May 28. Memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 4608 Deep Creek Blvd. Portsmouth, Va. 23702; the American Liver Society, 9952 Wemberton Drive, Nashville, Tenn. 37214; and/or Elk Shoals United Methodist Camp, 349-B Methodist Camp Road, West Jefferson, NC 28694.
