Born in Hartsville, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Ernest Edward and Mary Elizabeth Howle Carnes.
A graduate of Winthrop College, Mrs. Fant was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are a son, Patrick C. Fant Jr. and his wife, Audrey, of Greenville; three grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Hodges Sparks of Greensboro, N.C., James F. Hodges and his wife, Heidi, of Charleston, S.C., and Patrick C. Fant III and his wife, Jennifer, of Greenville; seven great-grandchildren, Ian and Christina Sparks, Savannah and Paisley Hodges, and Cleburne, Lillian and James Fant; and her devoted caregivers, Mary Beth Evans, Lois Seaborn and Barbara. Mrs. Fant was preceded in death by a daughter, Susanne F. Hodges; a grandson, Edward G. Fant; a sister; and a brother.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Edward Gower Fant Memorial Fund, Christ Church Episcopal, 10 N. Church St., Greenville, SC 29601; or to the charity of one's choice.
Services will be held today, Dec. 3, 2005, at 2 p.m. in Harper Chapel at First Presbyterian Church, with a visitation one hour prior to the service in the church parlor. The committal will be private.
