LEAVENWORTH - Doris I. Brulotte, 82, formerly of Yakima, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2006, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Ben and Tracy Brulotte of Leavenworth.

Doris was born on March 20, 1924, in Moxee, to Leon and Alphonsine (Lenseigne) Charron. Raised one of nine children, they worked and played together on their family's hop farm in Moxee. Doris would often walk the fields selling soda to the workers and helping her Mom cook and clean. A native Canadian French speaker, she learned English as she attended school, graduating from Holy Rosary High School in Moxee in 1942. On that special day, playing softball in a pair of red pants she had made herself, she caught the eye of another Moxee native, Oliver Brulotte. After completing the semester at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, she and Oliver were married. They moved to Grandview raising their children, Ben, Charlene, and Arnold "Butch", while continuing the tradition of hop farming. Widowed after ten years of marriage, she worked hard raising her children while running the family farm. She later mastered the difficult art of hop drying and continued to manage the Valley's only women's hop drying crew into her sixties.

"Memere"(my mother), as she was affectionately known, was beloved by everyone who knew her. She was loving and kind, and as a motherly figure to many, she devoted her life to her family, friends, and her Catholic faith. Memere was a member of the Catholic Church in Moxee, Prosser and Leavenworth, while also serving on several service organizations within the community. She opened her home and her heart to many, and if you stopped by, she was sure to invite you in for coffee and freshly baked scones or granola. She enjoyed gardening, and in the summer, she would grow beautiful roses and abundant raspberries, with which she would make a delicious 4th of July "potee." Every Thanksgiving and Christmas, family would gather in her home for laughter and good food - she made an amazing turkey with dressing and gravy.

Memere was an avid bowler and had the highest bowling average (182) in her group. She was an accomplished hiker, between ages 45 and 55 she reached the summits of Mt. Rainier, Mt. Stuart, Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams. Memere would often relax by the pool and play ping-pong and badminton with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memere was fun-loving and full of life and laughter.

She was an example to all with her abundant generosity of heart and spirit. Always in our hearts, we miss her.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ben and Tracy Brulotte of Leavenworth; nine grandchildren, Rene' (Mark) Rodriguez, Oliver (Pamela) Brulotte, Sam Brulotte, Joel Seymour, Aaron Seymour, Holly (Sky) Seymour, Katie (Chris) Parkinson, Emily Brulotte, and Jennifer (Ryan) Brulotte; six great-grandchildren, Alex, David, and Evan Rodriguez, Gabrielle, Joshua, and Elise Brulotte; two brothers, Sebastian Charron of Moxee, and Joseph Charron of Wapato; and two sisters, Annette Lamoureux of Richland and Della Sanford of Yakima.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Alphonsine Charron; her husband Oliver John Brulotte; a son, Arnold Brulotte; a daughter Charlene Seymour; a grandson, Paul Brulotte; two brothers, Leon Loranger and Edgar Charron; and two sisters, Theresa Menard and Aileen Desmarais.

A Vigil/Rosary Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 3, 2006, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Moxee. A lunch will follow at Holy Rosary Hall. The funeral procession will leave the Church at 2:00 p.m. for the concluding services at Holy Rosary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Central Washington Hospital Hospice, the East-West Out Reach, or to the Nature Conservancy, in care of Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.
