SUDDEN DEATH FORAN OLD RESIDENT
John Campbell, Sr. Died of Apoplexy at Home South of Town Monday Noon
The community is called upon to mourn the Ioss of another old citizen, John Campbell, Sr. having died at 12:30 Monday noon from a stroke of apoplexy at his home south of town.
There is a twofold feeling of loss; an honored citizen is gone and we are reminded that that heroic band of men and women who endured privations to conquer the wilderness and lay broad and deep the foundations of our present civilization are passing into the great beyond. When future generations ask for their monuments their children can say "look around you." Mr. Campbell was. a Christian man. A higher elogium cannot be passed upon him when we realize the meaning of that term in its fullest sense. He exemplified those virtues without which the world would be a poor and barren place.
Mr. Campbell's death was sudden. He had been suffering from a paralytic stroke but was as well as could be expected. Apoplexy was the immediate cause of his death. His daughter Emma was alone with him at the time. It occurred just as he finished his dinner.
John Campbell was born in Fayette County, Indiana, Nov. 10, 1829. He came to Appanoose county in the summer of 1856. His wife has been dead for several years. He leaves eight children. Mrs. Ella Pixley, of California; Mrs. Ida Ellwood, of Troy, Kan; George of Riverside, California; Mrs. Edna Johnson, Mrs. Ruth Phillips; Charles, John and Emma of Centerville.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 o'clock from the home.
