Ralph E. Holiman, Sr., 88, of Magnolia, Ark., died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, in the home. Mr. Holiman was born Aug. 17, 1916, in Tull, Ark., to the late Tom and Carrie (Carlisle) Holiman.
He was a master sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving in WWII, and a member of the National Guard as a sergeant first class. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where he was chairman of the board for 12 years, president of the Men's Bible Class for 15 years and a member of the choir. He was a member of the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Board of Governors of SAU, Boy Scouts of America and a lifetime member of the State Farm Insurance President's Club. He was an agent for State Farm Insurance Co. for over 40 years. He is preceded in death by a son, Danny Joe; his parents and two brothers.
Survivors are his wife of 63 years, Ruth W. Holiman of Magnolia; one son, R. Evans Holiman Jr. and wife, Mary Lou of Bossier City, La.; two daughters, Carrie Ann Trexler and husband, Charles of Magnolia, and Janet H. Dickinson and husband, Justice Jess H. of Madison and Gulfport, Miss; one brother, Bill Holiman of Athens, Texas; sisters, Vivian Rankin and husband, Vernon of Pineville, La., Elizabeth Walsworth, Imogene Jackson, Dorothy Wylie all of Little Rock, Ark.; and sisters-in-law, Mary Holiman of Donaldson, Ark., and Bonita Winningham of Holdenville, Okla.; grandchildren, Terri and Mark Cirrina, Sherri and Rickey Avery, Charla and Gerald Williams, Staci Trexler, Michael Dickinson, Dr. Jacob and Patty Dickinson, Samuel Dickinson and Benjamin Dickinson; 8 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p. m. Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Jay Culpepper officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6 p. m. until 8 p. m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church; Southern Arkansas University Scholarship Foundation; St. Labre Indian School, Ashland, Montana; Running Strong for American Indian Youth, Raton, New Mexico; or Red Cloud Indian School, Pineridge, S. D.
