He had worked for Sylvania in Emporium and in Bangor, Maine.
On August 17, 1946, in the Saint Marys Church, he married Helen M. Meyer and she preceded him in death on January 24, 2014.
He is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Sue Wheeler and her husband, Sherwood, of Haddonfield, NJ; Mary Beth Schaut and her husband, Donald, of Saint Marys; two sons, Thomas L. Breindel and his wife, Debra, of Dedham, Maine; Timothy J. Breindel and his wife, Ellen, of Holden, Maine; eight grandchildren, Angela Bennett, Kelly Salyards, Robert Schaut, Dr. David Wheeler, Anne Marie Clemens, Jody Butilier, Jill Breindel, and J.T. Breindel; 6 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Bon, of Saint Marys; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Schmidt, and her husband, Wolfgang, of Colorado.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Clara Schatz and Margaret Breindel; and by three brothers, Frederick, William, and Leo Breindel.
LaVern was a member of Queen of the World Church, a veteran of World War II and the Korean War having served in the United States Navy, was an Eagle Scout in Troop 97, and enjoyed square dancing, hiking, and woodworking.
Burial will bein the Saint Marys Cemetery.
