Helen M. Breindel 88, of Silver Creek Terrace and formerly of Maine and Florida, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2014 at the Elk Haven Nursing Home after a brief illness.
She was born April 20, 1925 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Urban and Caroline Weinzierl Meyer.
She was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, class of 1943.
On Aug. 17, 1946, in the St. Mary's Church, she married LaVern A. Briendel, who survives.
She is also survived by two daughters, Carolyn Sue Wheeler and her husband Sherwood of Haddonfield, N.J. and Mary Beth Schaut and her husband Donald of St. Marys; two sons, Thomas L. Briendel and his wife Debra of Dedham, Maine and Timothy J. Briendel and his wife Ellen of Holden, Maine;
eight grandchildren, Angela Bennett, Kelly Salyards, Robert Schaut, Dr. David Wheeler, Anne Marie Clemens, Jody Butilier, Jill Briendel and J.T. Briendel; three great-grandchildren and a sister, Patricia Schmidt and her husband, Wolfgang of Bolder, Colo.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Sister Josepha Meyer, O.S.B. and a brother Paul Meyer in infancy.
She was a member of the Queen of the World Church, a Girl Scout leader for many years in St. Marys and a member of the church choir in Maine.
She loved traveling, hiking, camping, square dancing and being with her children and grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at noon with the Rev. Richard Allen, pastor officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Marys Cemetery.
