Funeral Friday Vernon Taylor Phillips, 72, of 602 Demorest avenue, died at 11:40 p. m. Tuesday at the Grau hospital after an illness of several weeks with a complication of ailments.

He was born Jan. 26, 1872. at Muscatine, the son of Addison and Rhoda Ellen McCormick Phillips and had resided here all his life. On Oct. 25, 1894, he married Rosa Barney at Muscatine.

Surviving are his wife, one son, Paul, two daughters, Mrs, Vera Carter and Mrs. Lela Schmidt, a brother, Charles Phillips of Detroit, Mich., and three sisters, Mrs. Alice Ruckle, Mrs, Etta Cook and Mrs. Jennie Richards, all of Muscatine, besides four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, three sisters and five brothers. The body will be at the family residence this evening, but will be taken to the George M. Wittich funeral home Friday morning, where services will be held at 3 p. m. Friday. The Rev. Judson T. Perkins, pastor of the Musserville Methodist church, will be in charge. Burial will be made in Greenwood cemetery.
