BELGRADE, MAINE - Llewellyn Albert “Lou” Ashland - age 87, of the Bartlett Road, died May 28, 2016 at Alfond Center for Health in Augusta, ME. He was born in Belgrade, ME on Dec. 12, 1928 the son of Albert F. Ashland and Doris (Libby) Ashland. He was educated in Belgrade schools, graduating from Belgrade High School in 1948.

Lou served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed as production manager by Joseph Kirschner Co. for 30 years. He was previously employed by Rossler Co. in Connecticut as a salesman for several years. For many years during the summer months, he owned and operated Snug Harbor Camps on Great Pond.

Lou was a member of St. Michael Parish at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Augusta. He was a member of the Maine State Golf Association, Central Maine Seniors Golf Association and Belgrade Draggin Masters Snowmobile Club. He enjoyed playing bridge at the Cohen Center in Augusta and was active for 40+ years with the Pine Tree Council Boy Scouts of America.

He is predeceased by his wife, Marice H. “Rickie” (Deering) Ashland, on Feb. 13, 2000; by his brother Victor, his baby sister Elaine Eva, and his son-in-law, Don Burgess.

He leaves his sister Sylvia Morin; his children: Michael Ashland and his wife, Cathlyn of Waterville, ME, April Burgess of Tampa, FL, Kathleen Carrier and her husband Guy of Fort Pierce, FL, William Ashland and his wife Beverly of Westbrook, ME and Matthew Ashland and his wife Sherri of Lisbon Falls, ME; along with 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

He had a passion for golf and the game of bridge, was a die-hard fan of the Boston Red Sox, and was devoted to his family and friends.

His burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Belgrade, ME. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Belgrade Fire and Rescue, 6 Manchester Rd, Belgrade, ME or Delta Ambulance, 29 Chase Ave, Waterville, ME. (Plummer Funeral Home)
