BELFAST - Victor A. Ashland of Montville, 81, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, at the Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast, Maine, with his family at his side. Born and raised in Belgrade, the son of Albert and Doris, he graduated from Belgrade High School in 1953.

Victor served in the Army as a helicopter mechanic.

He leaves his wife of 38 years, Patricia, his brother, Lou, his sister, Sylvia; his daughters Pamela, Amy, Julie, and Karen, also his sons Brian, Raymond, Patrick, and Thomas and their significant others; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many close friends.

He worked at Maine Helicopters in Augusta from 1959 until his retirement in 2000. He received an award as the General Aviation Mechanic for the State of Maine for "making the most outstanding contribution to air safety in Maine". His excellence in his field of expertise meant that he continued work on special projects throughout his retirement.

A graveside service is scheduled at Pine Grove Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Belgrade. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, Belfast.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Waldo County General Hospital Hospice, of Belfast, Maine in memory of Victor Ashland. (Central Maine Newspapers 9/15/2015)
