John Heist was a life long resident of Lake Jem, Florida. He was the son of John Alden "Jack" and Ouida Gaynelle Bennett Heist.
He is survived by his sister, Ouida Gay Heist Brumley and brother Robert Bennett Heist (Eugenia), 5 nieces and nephews - Ouida Stark Martin, Daniel Early Brumley, Heather Gay Germeroth, Julia Amanda Quance and Adam Corbett Brumley.
John graduated from The Asheville School for Boys. He attended the University of South Florida. He ran Heist Groves where he is credited for creating a Navel Grapefruit.
John became a University of Florida booster in 1964 and maintained Gator Football tickets on the 50 yard line for 52 years which grateful family and friends all benefited.
John was a long time member of The Ice House Theatre where he directed and acted in several performances. He directed musicals with Mt. Dora High School Chorus for many years. He also was a big race car enthusiast and traveled the Sebring circuit.
Funeral services were conducted by J. Allen Harden Funeral and interment at Pine Forest Cemetery - Mount Dora, Lake County, Florida, USA
