James Kirkman Grantham, 53, American Fork, was dead on arrival Sunday at the American Fork Hospital. He had been on a camping trip in American Fork Canyon and apparently died during the night.
He was born July 23, 1921 in American Fork to James and Myrtle Green Grantham. He married Donna Lewis on April 3, 1940 and they were divorced. He married Erlin Thornton on Nov. 19, 1947 in American Fork, and the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Mr. Grantham was a state metal mine inspector. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II. At the time of his death he was an elder and a home teacher in the American Fork Fifteenth Ward.
Survivors include his widow, four sons, and three daughters, Jerald K. Grantham, and Mrs. Emmett (Carlyn) Jarrell, both of Memphis, Tenn.; James Thomas Grantham, Montana, Donald K., L. Steve, Kay-Lynn and Sharon Jean Grantham, all of American Fork; his mother, Tooele; six sisters, Mrs. Thara (Mahala Mary) Wilcox and Mrs. Harville (Jessie) Barnes, both of Mesa, Ariz.; Mrs. La Von (La Verne) Niellsen, Tooele; Mrs. Earl (Golda) Nye, Reno, Nev.; Mrs. Delbert (Lucille) Capson, Blackfoot, Ida., and Mrs. Harry (Edna) Bryan, Nevada and 13 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the American Fork Fifteenth Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the Anderson and Sons Mortuary Chapel from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. Burial will be in the American Fork City Cemetery.
