Mary E. Johnston, 85, of Ranson, died Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Jefferson Medical Center, Ranson. Born Feb. 24, 1931, in Charles Town, she was the daughter of Joseph Chrisman and Victoria (Jewell) Chrisman. Mrs. Johnston was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker. She is survived by daughter, Diane J. Cline; son, James F. Johnston Jr. and wife, Shelby, all of Harpers Ferry; five grandchildren, Jason Cline and wife Teresa, Brandy Ray and husband Brandon, Eric Johnston, Janell Holmes and husband Robert and Tiffany Cline; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Charlotte Plum, of Ranson. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Johnston Sr., who died May 28, 2004; and four sisters, Mattie Willingham, Kathleen Viands, Edna Dodson and Margaret Fiddler. Services will be held at noon Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, with Dr. Henry Christie officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the funeral home.
