Charles was born in Grand Junction, Iowa to Louis Henry
and Susan LaRusha Holden Longwell. He graduated from Cobb High School in May 1942. In January 1943 he was inducted into the U.S.Army and served in the 389th anti-aircraft artillery where he attained the rank of Sergeant. During
world war ll he saw action in the Philippines and New Guinea.
On February 10, 1946 he married his high school sweetheart
Chrisrine Fielden at the First Nazarene Church in Durant, Okla. They were married 59 years until her death
