away in Plano, Texas on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the age of 82 years 9 months and 7 days. He was born in Jefferson City, Missouri to Louis and Susan LaRusha (Holder) Longwell on Sunday, July 13, 1930. David Longwell married Mary Lester in Soper, Oklahoma on Saturday, July 6, 1957.
David proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He went on to be a a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service and retired when he was 50. David then went on be a full to farmer. He will be remembered as the "Candy Man" because he always had life savers to give to everyone at the 7th and Beech Church of Christ. David enjoyed gun smithing, duck hunting and gardening.
Mr. Longwell is survived by his wife, Mary Longwell of the home; sons, David Longwell, Jr. and wife Sharon of Euless, Texas and Danny Longwell of Durant, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Laura, Cody and Matthew Longwell.
Mr. Longwell was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Susan Longwell; brother, Louis Longwell, Jr. and Charles Longwell; sister, Mildred Pray.
Family Hour will be from 7-8:00 PM Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. A Funeral Service in his honor will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, April 26, 2013 at the Church of Christ at 7th and Beech in Durant with Bro. Ken Stegall and Bro. John Curtis officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Armstrong, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be David Longwell, Danny Longwell, Laura Longwell, Cody Longwell, Martha Longwell and Tiffany Hannah.
