David Snodgrass was captain of D Co 1st Tenn Bn (Colm's). He enlisted at Sparta, Tennessee, on Dec. 9, 1861. His regiment was captured at Fort Donelson on Feb. 16, 1862, then exchanged at Vicksburg, Mississippi, in Sept. 1862. Capt. Snodgrass died of disease in the military hospital, Yazoo City, Mississippi, August 1863 of "congestive chills." His half-brother, Lt. James Vass Snodgrass was killed at the Battle of Franklin.
