There will be a gloom and lack of Christmas cheer in one household today. At 10 o'clock on Wednesday night, after a five days' sickness from pneumonia, Mrs. Emma Brown expired at her home, corner of Walnut and Front streets. The deceased was a daughter of James James and was born in England in 1822. She came to this country in her infancy and has resided in this community the greater portion of her life. In 1838 she was united in marriage with Mr. David Hewit, of which union William G. and Charles C. Hewit, of this place ; Mrs. Thomas Nokes, of Gaysport, and Mrs. Charles Moore, of Houtzdale, are the surviving children. Mr. Hewit died several years ago. In 1866 she was wedded to David Brown, of Canoe Creek, who afterwards died in 1876. For forty years she was a consistent and faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal church. She was a woman of deep piety, respected and held in esteem by her neighbors, and there are many who will sincerely mourn her demise. The funeral services win will at her late home at 2.30 o'clock this afternoon and will be conducted by Rev. E. T. Swartz, of the Methodist Episcopal church. Interment in the Presbyterian church.
