Juanita Bennett Van Winkle was an "Army brat" and she and her sister, Col. Hazel Bennett Ingersoll, moved around many times growing up. Their father, Lt. Col. Harry Lee Bennett (actually he was "Jr."), was decorated with a Distinguished Service Cross for heroism in France during World War I. The family spent some time in Panama before WWII where Juanita met her future husband, Wilson Woodrow Van Winkle, who was also in the U.S. Army.

Juanita and Wilson came to Center Point in the late 1960s, first living on Stoneleigh Road and later in town. They left and returned due to work, but eventually were able to retire. Juanita was active in Eastern Star and Wilson in the Center Point Masonic Lodge. He also preached at the Christian Church.

The Bennetts have a long and distinguished history in America, early pioneer families in Virginia who settled in the Isle of Wight County during the 1600s. Their lineage also ties in with many old families. One ancestor, James Council, was a paymaster during the American Revolutionary War. Farther back, there are filial links to Sir Francis Drake, the great Elizabethan explorer.

Juanita and Wilson had four children: Alan (1944-2004), Rosalyn (1947-2015), Ana Margaret Harpster and David.

Juanita and Wilson's five grandchildren are: Sean Harpster, and Sondra Harpster (Ana Margaret), Damian and Alex Van Winkle (David), and Kristi Van Winkle (Alan).
