Mr. McCormick privately owned the oldest Southdown sheep flock in the United States. In 1923 he began exhibiting at the state fair and exhibited there for more than 50 years and was the oldest exhibitor.
He was past president of the Indiana Southdown Breeders Association, past president of Indiana Livestock Breeders Association, serving on the executive committee for six years and was president of the executive committee. He was also past president of Tippecanoe County Sheep Improvement Association.
Mr. McCormick was a member of Stidham United Methodist Church, West Central Lamb Marketing Cooperative, director of the American Southdown Breeders Association and superintendent of Tippecanoe County Sheep Exhibit for many years. He was merit badge counselor for the Boy Scouts for many years and his picture was hung in the Agriculture Hall of Fame at Purdue in 1976.
He served as Jackson Township trustee from 1946 to 1954 and also had served on the Wea Township Advisory Board. He was a member and past master of Shawnee Masonic Lodge 129, a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, a member and past patron of Order of Eastern Star, Shawnee Chapter 523.
Surviving are a son, Richard Mason of Lafayette; a brother, Harold McCormick of Camden; and a nephew who was reared in home, Edward C. Stewart of Lafayette.
