Benjamin Roosevelt Duke of Savannah died Saturday, Oct. 19, at Hardin County General Hospital at the age of 88. He was born Oct. 28, 1907 in Hardin County and was the son of the late Benjamin Norris "Buck" Duke and Sarah Wade Duke. On Nov. 21, 1926, he was married to the former Nona Beryleen Alexander. Mr. Duke was a retired farmer and former owner of Duke's Laundromat, and he worked several years in construction with TVA. He was a member of Savannah Church of Christ, the Woodmen of the World, Civitan Club, and Farm Bureau. Services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Shackelford Chapel with Jim Chamblee officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens of Hardin County. In addition to his wife, he leaves three daughters, Betty Swift of Odessa, Texas, Margie Baker of Nolensville, Tenn., and Yvonne Hershman of Miami, Fla.; two sons, Frank Duke of Holladay and Don Duke of Memphis; three sisters, Lucille Rainey of Savannah, Elita Owen of Portageville, Mo., and Roberta McCasland of Belleville, Ill.; 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ina Joyce Duke, and six brothers.
