MRS. PETER ADOLF

The angel of death stalked Into our midst last Friday morning to claim the person of Mrs. Peter Adolf, thereby disrupting a family circle Mrs. Anna Katherina Adolf, nee Schmoll, was born November 20, 1859, at Roehrenfurth, Province of Hessia, Germany, and was the last to survive of a family of eight children. She was baptized at Roehrenfurth and later confirmed in the church at Koerle.

Accompanied by a cousin, the deceased's mother set out for America In 1884 and came to LeMars, Iowa, where two brothers had preceded her. Here she made the acquaintance of Mr. Peter Adolf and was wedded to him on the 3d of May, 1887.

Mr. and Mrs. Adolf made their home at first on a farm near LeMars. After three years they came to O'Brien county and for three years lived south of Hartley. From there they moved north of town, where through thrift and economy they acquired a farm. Eight children came to bless their union, of whom one died in Infancy.

In 1916 Mr. and Mrs. Adolf retired and came to town. A year ago Mrs. Adolf was ailing and upon a thorough examination it was found she was afflicted with diabetes. Recently and quite suddenly her condition grew worse. The best of care was given her, yet her strength Waned and on Friday morning at a quarter of 2 she departed this life having attained the age of 68 years 5 months and 14 days.

Mrs. Adolf was a ripened Christian character. God's word and God's service were the delight of her life. Although Inclined to quiet and seclusion, she was not morose, but radiated cheerfulness which will long be remembered by all who knew her She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a true friend. Of such it may be said, "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth Yea, the spirit saith that they rest from their labors and their works do follow after them."

The deceased leaves to mourn her departure her husband, Mr. Peter Adolf; seven sons and daughters, as follows: Mrs. Martha Buchan, Ashton, la.; Mrs. Emma Martineck, Algona, la.; Helmuth and Walter Adolf, Hartley; Mrs. Eva Kaiser, Calumet, la.; Herman Adolf. Richmond, Calif.; Armin Adolf, Hartley; three sons-in-law, Win Martineck, William Buchan, Harry Kaiser; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Celesta Adolf, Mrs. Mayren Adolf; three grandchildren, other relatives and a large circle of friends.

Services were held Tuesday afternoon at the home and at the Methodist church, with Rev. Albrecht in charge. A quartette rendered suitable anthems. Many floral offerings and a large gathering of people testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held. Interment took place at Pleasant View cemetery.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Krumeri, of Hammond, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Lee and daughter, Miss Minnie and Miss Mildred Bartels, of LeMars Mr. and Mrs. August Arend, of Ocheyedan; Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Kaiser and daughter, of Austin, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Jake Adolf and daughter, of Worthington, Minn Mr. and Mrs. Pete Gieser and family, Mr. and Mrs. Will Rost and family, of Brandt, S.
