December 9, 1938—May 11, 2016
Sister Adrienne Andreani, SHF, died peacefully at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of the Holy Family in Fremont on May 11, 2016 at the age of 77. She was born on December 9, 1938, in Fort Bragg, California, and after graduating from Fort Bragg High School in 1956, she earned her RN degree from Providence College of Nursing and then attended Holy Names College. She entered the Sisters of the Holy Family from Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Fort Bragg on July 2, 1960, at the age of 21.
After her initial formation, Sister Adrienne was the infirmarian at the Holy Family Motherhouse for two years, and then served in parishes in the dioceses of San Jose and Monterey. In 1979 she went to St. Vincent’s Day Home in Oakland to do clerical work; she remained there until 2003 in various capacities, including Parent Coordinator and Director of Health and Nutrition.
Sister Adrienne brought her nursing skills to bear in her work as infirmarian and at the day home. She was a very caring person and a skilled nurse, according to sisters who were in her care. She loved animals, especially rabbits, and seemed happiest when she was introducing her two loves to each other: rabbits to children and vice versa. She introduced animal therapy to the Day Home, and at one time, there was a bunny or guinea pig in every classroom. As an RN at St. Vincent’s, Sister Adrienne handled the day-to-day illnesses, bumps and bruises that came her way.
