Laverne C. Johnson

Laverne C. Johnson, 82, of Ord died July 15, 1995 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Funeral services were held July 19 at 10:30 at the Ord United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Additional services were provided by the Masonic Lodge #103 of Ord. Burial was in the Ord City Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson was born September 23, 1912 to Andrew and Anna (Hansen) Johnson in southern Cherry County, Neb. The family lived at Mullen from 1914 to 1921 and then moved back to southern Cherry County. He lived at Ord with his uncles for three years while he attended Ord High School. He graduated in 1930. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1945. He and his brother, Elwin, started farming in Vinton Township of Valley County in 1933 and farmed together for many years before retiring in the late 1970's. He then became actively involved on the board of directors of the First Nation Bank of Ord.

In 1963, he was granted membership in the Great Navy of Nebraska. He liked to travel. He was a member of the Ord United Methodist Church, Ord Masonic Lodge #103 for 51 years, the Tehema Temple and was a Charter member of the Ord Elks Lodge #2371. He had also served on the school board of Vinton Dist. #23 for many years.

Survivors include one brother, Elwin of Ord; and two sisters, Lucille Jenkins of Gothenburg and Evelyn Jackson of Ord.
