FATHER, SON DROWN IN POND ON PRIVATE PROPERTY

Two men drowned on Tuesday night in a pond on private property in the Hochatown area.

According to emergency personnel, multiple agencies responded to the scene of the incident around a mile south of the Beavers Bend turnoff around 9:30 p.m.

Assistance from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol's Marine Enforcement Division was requested by the McCurtain County Sheriff's Department around 10:30 p.m.

A full report from the OHP has not been received by the newspaper and the victims' identities have not been released by mid-day today.

Local residents familiar with the victims' family however, identified the father and son as Leslie Williams, 86, and Glen Williams, 64. Emergency personnel have confirmed that a father and son drowned in the incident.

The bodies of the victims were recovered early Wednesday morning; the last units returned from the scene at approximately 2:45 a.m.

Circumstances of the deaths are unknown at this time, but personnel at the scene noted that a short flatbottomed boat and a pickup truck were both in the pond at the time responders arrived.

Glen Williams was said to have been in the cab of the pickup when he drowned, for reasons currently unknown.

The pickup had to be retrieved by a wrecker in order for Glen Williams' body to be recovered.

Another person at the scene noted that the boat apparently involved in the incident had somehow overturned.

Any additional details included in the highway patrol report will be published when it is received.

This is one of two double-drowning incidents in southesat Oklahoma over the last three days.

TWO BROKEN BOW MEN DIE WHILE FISHING ON PRIVATE POND
Posted: May 12, 2016 2:19 PM CDT Updated: May 12, 2016 2:19 PM CDT
BY: DEE DUREN, NEWSON6.COMEMAIL

The information from this story was taken from an OHP drowning incident report.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating after two men died while fishing on a private pond in McCurtain County. Troopers are calling the incident an apparent drowning but the Tulsa medical examiner's office will determine the official cause of death.
Troopers say 87-year-old Leslie Williams and 64-year-old Glen Williams, both of Broken Bow, were fishing on a pond northeast of town Tuesday. Leslie Williams fell overboard when his boat, a 12-foot Jon boat, capsized, the investigating trooper said.

For "undetermined reasons," Glen Williams' Chevrolet pickup entered the same pond and was found in about 7 feet of water. His body was recovered from the truck, the report states.
